I plan to expose not only the dangers but the new epidemic of opioids that has made its way into the school system and local communities. Part of the solution is to hold our parents accountable by making them aware of what current dangers are in their homes. Most times parents are not aware of the signs their children may be displaying if they were introduced to drugs. I also want to provide a list of resources for any help that may be needed for existing drug abuse.

A jeopardy trivia game will be delivered electronically in the classroom and used to educate the students on the dangers of using drugs. Students will be broken down into teams and asked questions regarding most commonly used drugs including prescription drugs and new psychoactive substances (NPS). We will provide the students with the factsheets provided by NIDA which will have answers to the jeopardy questions. This will facilitate teamwork and a collaborative environment where students would be able to discuss among themselves and work through the trivia questions before providing a team response. A brief presentation regarding key points about prescription drugs and NPS will be given to students prior to the trivia game to further emphasize the objective of the game and the importance of the educational event on improving their knowledge and understanding of the dangers of using drugs. Students will be asked to develop a logic model showing the link between substance use and the related consequences.
