Chat Day Participant FAQs
While anyone can view the live chat, only schools that have completed advanced registration and received an access code may log in and submit questions during the chat.
To log in, simply enter your access code and create your own username. This username will be associated with your questions automatically and will be displayed if your question is answered during the chat. To submit a question, simply type your question in the text box at the bottom of the screen.
Once registered, your school will receive a single access code that all students can use to log-in and ask questions during the chat.
There is no limit to how many times your access code can be used by your students to log in, and you can create as many usernames as needed throughout the day.
No. Your access code will allow you to log in and ask questions anytime during Chat Day, which begins at 8 a.m., EST, and concludes at 6 p.m., EST.
Every year, NIDA receives thousands of questions from students around the country and the world. We try to answer as many as we can as quickly as possible and continue to refine our process. We try to answer at least a few from each class. Remember that you can always check the transcript if you do not see your response posted during your class period.
Yes. We post the transcripts about 2 weeks after Chat Day so that you and your students can see which questions we were able to answer. Just search for your school name.
You don't need special software to access the chat. The chat is Web-based so all you need is a computer and an Internet connection. This Web chat is best viewed in Internet Explorer version 9, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Firefox.
If you get disconnected, just log back in at http://www.drugabuse.gov/chat/, click to enter the chat and resubmit your user name, school, and State information.
If you experience a technical problem during the chat, please email us your question at email@example.com.
