We know you’ve heard how dangerous drinking alcohol is, especially if you’re underage. You might even hear from those who pressure you at parties and out-of-school gatherings that “everyone’s doing it.” But the truth is, not everyone’s doing it—take it from the scientists who know.

NIDA’s 2010 Monitoring the Future Survey of teen drug use and attitudes shows that alcohol use, especially among 12th graders, declined significantly in the past year. The large annual study notes that alcohol use among 12th graders is now at the lowest reported percentage since the study began in 1975.

Monitoring the Future also notes a significant decline in heavy drinking or “binge drinking.” Binge drinking is when people have several drinks in a row over a short time period, to get drunk.

So, if you ever feel pressured into drinking with that lame old line “everyone’s doing it,” make sure you remember the real deal: alcohol is out!

OMG I cant believe my eyes very real stuff though, very scary too :(

Excellent post Sara, thanks for this great information. very helpful for us.

I completely agree with you Sara. and teenagers have attractions of these things and if they addicted of drinking then it's very difficult to stop these harmful things for them.

I agree with Sara. I am not a drinker nor do I influence others to. Teens are falling victim to alcohol and its negative effects. They have many problems once they try it, but if we can warn a teenager of the alcohol and its troubles it brings, we can keep our generation together.

After reading this blog i was in complete shock. no one should be pressured into doing alcohol or any other drug. this has become a major problem and must be fixed quickly inorder to keep our generation together. alcohol has had a negative effect on many teens, they dont realize how harmful it is until something bad happens.

Sara is right it is best not to drink under the influence. There are many consequences that come with drinking that its crazy people my age rather still drink. I know from personal experience the harm alcohol can cause.

Drinking Alcohol is very risky. teenagers aren't ready for the consequences they bring. i agree with Sara 100 percent, i am a teenager and i know that im to young to even think about drinking alcohol. i would never influence my friends or others to drink alcohol.

The only reason teenagers drink is because they want to join the bandwagon and feel included. But that's not cool.

This Really Changes Me!

This is very true and worth the time reading but makes me think about the next generation.

UMMMM......IDK WHAT TO SAY BUT I JUST NO THAT IM NOT GOING TO DO IT NO MORE BUT I DIDNT REALLY JUST LOOK AT IT THAT WAY BUT YA I TRIED IT ONCE AND IT WAS NASTY BUT I DID BCUZ EVERY ONE WAS TELLIN ME TO DO IT AND THEY WS TELLIN ME I WAS LAME IF I DIDNT DO IT AND I SHOULD HAVE WALKED AWAY FROM THEM AND TOLD THEM NO I DNT DRINK AND LET THAT BE THE END BUT NOW I NO BECAUSE OF THIS BLOG I AM A BETTER PERSON SO THANKS

i understand were u are coming from teenagers use alcohol as a way to say someone is cool.and me on the other hand well never try to influence someone else to do wrong.

When I readed this blog I was kind of sad because I have some friends that think it's cool to drink and it's not at this age I think by drinking Alcohol it has a big effect on your life. For example I seen the 46 year old man on the street so I have gave him a little bit of money and he took it and brought so Alchol with it. So when I asked him why he did that he said he been doing it since he was young.

wow this is crazy who would do it

when you take your surveys, you do realize most teens say they dont when in reality they do. i, a high schooler know that alot of teens actually do drink
